No, really. Ok, here's what happened...

My fren Anna wrote this just amazing stery for her MFA workshop. It was just a cool story that you wouldn't have been shocked to see in Harper's. Anyway, her class hated it. They lambasted so hard that she cried and for a whole day, until she talked to me, she questioned whether she should even be trying to be a writer at all. Now, I know I'm in Mississippi, but most MFA students here are Yankees, which I mention to say that these are smart people from good schools, who came to Mississippi because this is where Barry Hannah teaches. Even the instructor turned on her, and suddenly I realized that these people in her class had not the life experience to digest the story. Pearls before swine.

Now, if I wanted to teach creative writing, there is no question that I would pursue an MFA. I don't. I won't. The only audience I need now is the one who writes rejection slips. But that's just me.

Ok, I've just gone on a coffee fueled sermon.
